Dubai Opera

On the first day of my visit to Dubai I went to explore the opera, which opened on August 2016. I’ve booked a guided tour to enjoy the building inside out. So far it is the most modern opera house in the world I’ve visited and too bad I haven’t caught any play there.
Dubai Opera is located in the heart of the city - in the Downtown. It is right next to the tallest building - Burj Khalifa, biggest mall - The Dubai Mall and it’s facing the largest fountain in the world.
Building was designed to resemble a dhow - a type of wooden ship common in the Gulf for centuries. Outside structure is finished with glass and metal, while inside is wooden.
The auditorium has 2,000 seats and can be reconfigured for different type of events, since this is a multi-format venue. Every seat has individual air conditioning vents beneath to cool the auditorium down during hot season.
This multistorey glass chandelier, that hangs in the lobby, named Symphony resembles a fishing net from those local dhows. It is composed of thousands of individually crafted glass pearls, which are created by Czech glass brand Lasvit. At night chandelier is lit by nearly 3,000 internal LED sources.
